Northern Interior Decorating Contest — Contestant 3

It’s design time! I recently had the privilege of judging a design contest for Northern Hardware and Furniture. There were three contestants who each decorated a room in their upstairs furniture department. These contestants did a fantastic job, and I loved seeing their creativity and ideas. My “judge’s critique” is below. Take a read, and feel free to comment below with your own encouraging ideas.

CONTESTANT #3

LIVING ROOM:
Nicely done with great use of color. I like the shelving being used as a part of this space. Love the scale of the mirror and the tapestry. The white divider screen is a stark contrast to the darker colors. Maybe a wood tone frame and an earthy screen would be a better fit here.

WINDOW VIGNETTE:
To continue the flow from the living room a darker wood cabinet would  better complement the coffee table and shelves. Even though you loved this stool the fabric upholstery would be better if it was a pattern with the colors of the cushions in the living room or one of the solid colors. Nice use of repetition with the flowers and vases.

TABLE / ENTRY AREA:
Nice flow from the outside in. The window box wall art, bicycle, and ivy screen makes the space feel like an outdoor patio. The coloured furniture and the colourful linens are a nice introduction to the colourful living room.

SUGGESTIONS:
For the stool, room divider, and window cabinet, I found the following options that might have helped the whole decor flow more seamlessly from room to room.
